Learning How to Cook

Plant Based Dietitian Blog Img

Cooking…something I have always done, experimented with, been passionate about, and somehow, been considered an expert in, since I am a Registered Dietitian. Thrown into writing recipes for books, blogs, and interviews and performing cooking demos in videos, on television, and web shows, I have lovingly accepted and eagerly approached these opportunities. Yet, I have always professed the fact that “I am not a chef” with the same intention of warning my audience that I am not technically trained in this profession.

Well, from hereon forward, I will no longer be able to cling to my untrained practices, as I am actually enrolled in Rouxbe Online Plant-Based Professional Certification Course in cooking starting May 15th. I am thrilled to hone my culinary skills! Click here to learn more about the course and to sign up, too…

I just got finished doing Dr Fuhrman NET certification as I am going to be working with Troubled Teens and their families as clients…I have been in the troubled teen industry for 8 yr then I got sick and almost died 2 yrs ago 2 abscess and blood clots and a stroke…then my fit surfer husband ended up in the hospital with 558 blood sugar diabetes…we started Dr Fuhrman's book and from there on we have been plant based and sharing with others. We just completed teaching a 6 week health class linking Our Bodies as a temple biblical teaching through our church…I am going to be going into the troubled teen industry and helping share this as the industry does not link food with mental or behavioral issues. It's going to be a big undertaking and I really need all the help I can get please choose me I will work harder then anyone out there as my mission in life is to get to that younger generation who are suffering with things that can be cured with Plant Based Nutrition.

I am also a dietitian and am taking my career into plant-based nutrition only while showing people hands-on how to cook and enjoy plant-based meals. I would love to learn better knife skills and more intuitive techniques as well as instantly recognizing and building awesome flavor profiles!

I love cooking and baking, and I am starting my journey of becoming a Dietitian this year, finally nailing down my passion! My plan is to specialize in vegan and vegetarian nutrition, and I would love to do so through both my knowledge AND food preparation! Through the Rouxbe Professional Certification Program, I am most looking to learn more about knife skills, specialized techniques, and learning new and interesting flavor profiles. I would love to win this, good luck everyone!

When I saw your original posting about this online cooking certification I was intrigued. I have never enjoyed cooking much until I stopped eating animal products; now I find that looking for and trying new recipes is a lot of fun…just wish I had more time and experience. I am an accountant but at the moment I feel like I need a change and I would like to try something new that I feel passionate about. This cooking course would fit the bill 🙂
There are so many things that I would like to learn such as knife skills, cooking terminology, more about spices and what flavours they give/when to use what, and I want to learn the stuff that I don't even know that I don't know 🙂

  12. Debbie Kelt

I just realized that the first post I saw about this course was by Whitney of Eco-Vegan Gal…that's when I became interested in it and checked out the Rouxbe trial…I see you are both in the same class…would love to join you 🙂

  13. Kimberly Marcus

I would love to learn how to improve my knife skills, creative baking SOS free and new opportunities to teach others what I have learned, and hopefully will be learning.

  14. Angela Elaine Norman

I'm also a dietitian and looking to specialize in plant based nutrition. I started a plant based potluck group in my town and would like to be able to do cooking demos and also qualify to train with PCRM. I would most like to learn how to prepare plant based meals so well that even my omni husband becomes interested in eating it.

  15. Kathryn Bulver

I've been planning to take this course since I first saw you mention it on FB. With my federal tax refund going to paying off some debts, a 1/2-off discount would help so much!

  16. Vanessa DuFoe

I would love to take this course! As a food blogger and nutrition fanatic, I'm looking to expand my skills and knowledge so that I can help others out there looking to make cooking fun and easy.

  17. Susan Johnston

I have been a vegetarian for a long time, like to cook and am self-taught about plant-based cooking, most recently using a lot of online resources. I would like to learn more about plant-based cooking, because I still have a lot to learn. This course would be a resource to fill in the gaps in my knowledge. I have been looking for new ideas on plant-based meals that would have a broad appeal and feel that this course would provide them. It would also be nice to be in a class with like-minded people who have a passion for plant-based cooking.

  18. Bitter A. Murky

How to make food taste good and extra yummy. Cooking without S.O.S. limits the flavors of your food, especially the ones people are used to and love so much.

  19. Beth Turner Price

Awesome Julieanna! I've been eyeballing that course since it first came out. I would love to join you

  20. Emily Kaminsky

I'm a community organizer, work-from-home mom of 3 children, backyard gardener, and a food and nutrition advocate. I'm on the board of a start-up food co-op in my community, I helped start my community garden, and am leading the effort on my son's school's Food Revolution Day activities this year. I also am a Hunger Free Vermont Ambassador and am attending University of Vermont's Certificate for Sustainable Food Systems this June. I am a full-on plant-based nutritarian and am looking for new skills to share with my community by starting a kitchen learning school in concert with one of our local churches. My cooking skills are okay, but I could sure use some real instruction – my mother and father never taught me how to cook!

  21. Stéphanie Pelletier

I would love to win this opportunity! I would love to learn the "science" behind spices, texture and different tastes to be able to create my own plant based recipes. Who knows, maybe a new career awaits!

  22. Alice Lacara

What would I most like to learn more about in the kitchen? I would love to walk into my kitchen and have the skill to make a delicious plant-based meal without a recipe. I am transitioning to a plant-based lifestyle. With my new found knowledge and skill, I will share and teach others how to eat better and live a healthier lifestyle.

  23. Alice Lacara

Does anyone know who won the Rouxbe contest? I didn't read anything about it.

  24. Alice Lacara

Did you find out? I haven't read anything about it, but would like to know.

  25. Debbie Kelt

    Alice Lacara – I haven't heard anything…guess that means it wasn't me 🙁

  26. Judy Okten

Hi Julieanna! I'm looking into taking this course and I wondered what you thought about it? Would you recommend? I have some experience in the kitchen just cooking family meals, but that's about it. Thanks so much. Judy

  27. Julieanna Hever

Debbie Kelt Sorry, yes, we notified the winner directly… Thank you for participating!
